Maps of Madeira

Madeira's mountainous terrain and winding roads make a good map essential. Whether you are driving the coastal roads, hiking a levada or navigating Funchal's streets, having the right reference makes the difference.

Road Map

The main highway (VR1/VE1) runs along the south coast from Machico to Ribeira Brava, with tunnels through the mountains. The old road network (ER/EN routes) offers scenic drives but takes significantly longer. Google Maps and Apple Maps both cover Madeira well for driving navigation.

Hiking and Levada Maps

The official Madeira hiking trail map is published by the regional government and covers all marked routes. Freytag & Berndt produces a detailed 1:25,000 topographic map of the island. For levada walks, the Veredas guidebook by Raimundo Quintal includes route maps and descriptions.

Public Transport

Horários do Funchal operates bus routes across the island. Route maps and timetables are available at their offices in Funchal and on their website. The bus network covers most towns, though service frequency decreases in rural areas.

OpenStreetMap has strong coverage of Madeira's road network and hiking trails. The Madeira Trails app provides GPS tracks for official walking routes. For marine activities, Navionics covers the coastal waters.
